DERMagic Rosemary Shampoo Bar for Cats: Gentle, Organic, Effective

DERMagic Rosemary Shampoo Bar for cats — organic, gentle, tea-tree-free and preservative-free. Soft skin, healthy coat, and an easier bath.

The DERMagic Rosemary Shampoo Bar is gentle and deep-cleansing, formulated specifically for cats — which above all means formulated without tea tree oil — and designed to make bath time considerably easier on both of you.

A shampoo bar made for cats

Does your cat suffer from skin conditions? This natural organic shampoo bar from Dermagic will leave their coat and skin soft and healthy.

The DERMagic Rosemary Shampoo Bar for felines is gentle and deep-cleansing, and the feline formula is built without tea tree oil. We have withdrawn “anti-inflammatory, and anti-microbial” from this line — we cannot support either claim, and a product presented as treating inflammation or infection is presenting itself as a veterinary medicine rather than a wash.

Why rosemary

Rosemary essential oils have been used for years to:

  • Improve blood circulation in the skin
  • Moisturise hair and skin
  • Help prevent hair loss

DERMagic has incorporated this healing oil into a lightly-scented shampoo bar that’s designed for the reality of bathing a cat — hold the cat with one hand while creating a thick, rich, easily-rinsed lather with the other. The result: an easier, more relaxing bath for both of you.

Built for feline needs

All DERMagic feline products are:

  • Free from tea tree oil — the claim that actually matters for a species that grooms everything off and swallows it
  • Water-free, so no preservative is needed at all
  • Biodegradable
  • Free from artificial dyes and fragrances

We have dropped “naturally non-toxic” and “pH-balanced for a cat’s specific needs” from this list. The first is too broad a blanket claim; the second contradicted us, because a saponified bar is alkaline at around pH 9 to 10 and there is no single feline skin pH to balance to. The bar rinses off, which is why that doesn’t end up being a problem — but it is not what “pH-balanced” means. The full account is in our guide to the feline bar.

The shampoo bars are handmade in the Pacific Northwest using organic vegetable oils and green manufacturing processes.

Safe for cats and kittens — and great for dogs too.

Care tip

For the longest possible bar life, store the shampoo bar exposed to air between baths — not sealed in a damp dish. A well-aired bar will last considerably longer than one that’s left wet.

Why this one and not the tea tree bar

The single thing that makes this a feline product is that it contains no tea tree oil. Cats groom off and swallow whatever you apply to their coat, which turns a topical application into an oral dose, and cats clear these compounds less readily than dogs do. Concentrated tea tree oil has a substantial veterinary poisoning record in both species — 443 documented cases in one ten-year review — and the severe cases skew towards young, small cats. The full evidence, including what we can and cannot claim about the oil, is in is tea tree oil safe for dogs and cats.

Frequently asked questions

What is the DERMagic Rosemary Shampoo Bar?
It’s a gentle, deep-cleansing shampoo bar formulated specifically for cats — which here means formulated without tea tree oil, since cats groom off and swallow whatever you apply. It contains no water, so no preservative is needed, and a solid bar makes bathing a cat noticeably easier than a bottle. We have withdrawn ‘anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial’ from this answer as claims we cannot support.
Why rosemary essential oil?
Rosemary essential oil has been used for years to help improve blood circulation, moisturise hair and skin, and prevent hair loss. The Rosemary Shampoo Bar incorporates it into a lightly-scented solid bar that creates a thick, easily-rinsed lather.
Is it safe for cats and kittens?
Yes, and the reason is specific: the feline range contains no tea tree oil, which matters because cats groom whatever you put on them straight back off and swallow it. The products are biodegradable, free from artificial dyes or fragrances, and — being solid bars with no water in them — need no preservative at all. Good on dogs too. Two withdrawals: this answer used to say the range is ’naturally non-toxic’ and ‘pH-balanced for a cat’s specific needs’. A saponified bar is alkaline at around pH 9–10, there is no single feline skin pH to balance to, and ’non-toxic’ is too broad a claim to make across a whole range.
What's actually in it?
Saponified Coconut*, Olive*, Castor*, Sunflower*, Jojoba*, and Rice Bran Oils; Cocoa Butter; and Rosemary Essential Oil. The starred ingredients are certified organic. Handmade in the Pacific Northwest using green manufacturing processes.
How do I make the bar last longer?
Store it exposed to air between baths — not sealed in a dish or wrapper. A well-aired bar lasts considerably longer than one left wet, and you’ll get many more baths out of it.
